Scene from Paugan Dam (1980) After the Paugan Dam was constructed, tugboats like the one in this photograph became essential to the spring log drive. Because the Gatineau River no longer moved fast enough to send the logs downriver, tugboats were used to tow the log booms and keep them moving.

RBF notes: Photographed in Gracefield, QC, July 5, 2006. Here's the updated version of Joan Carol. Richard St-Jacques is making it into an outdoor bar with drink service from the pilothouse window. He owns a Resort/Retreat in Gracefield by the river. Construction is still in progress and Joan Carol will receive trim paint at some point.
