An example of one of the many types of boats constructed by the Steelcraft division of Russel-Hipwell Engines Ltd. is this dredge tender, photographed in northern Ontario waters. Forty feet long and 12 feet in the beam, it is powered by a 175 h.p. Cummins diesel. Equipped with an Amsterdam plow, it can crack 12 inches of blue ice. Russel-Hipwell also build tugs, work boats, launches, scows, barges and ferries.

I was out on the Empire Sandy on Lake Ontario, and we were several miles away, but it was dead calm, so we pulled off a lifeboat drill and went over to where McNally Construction was laying water intake pipe, just to get these shots.
