GAO Notes: Steel Diesel tug Glenside [C.371770] built in 1944 at Owen, Sound; rebuilt in 1979. Registered at Hamilton. Owned by McKeil Marine Ltd. Canadian register was closed November 6, 1998. Renamed Tycoon. Was working in Nassau, Bahamas in 1999.

GLENSIDE Glenside (i), (CN.88, W.93, YTB 500) also built by Russel in 1944, was also acquired by McKeil in 1979. It was assigned to their Remorqueurs et Barges de Montral Inc subsidiary and received a similar rebuild in the same year, and converted to twin screw, with new engines totaling 1450 bhp. In 1998 it was also sold to Bahamas owners and sailed from the Great Lakes via the Erie Canal. The Navy auxiliary craft Glenside broke a tow-line while being towed into Halifax Harbor and by late afternoon was drifting near Beaver Island, just south of Sheet Harbor. There was no one aboard. The Navy destroyer Qu'Appelle was headed for the area to attempt to take the vessel in tow.
